Girls Varsity Soccer played a solid two games this week. On Monday October 7, GVS played against Marymount. The game had somewhat of a slow start as we were not adjusted to the grass field, but we were able to pick up the level of play later in the half. Towards the end of the first half, sophomore Sara Kunofsky dribbled the ball to the left corner of the field, cut the ball back, and took a perfectly placed shot that went into the bottom right corner of the goal. The first half ended with a score of 1-0 for Fieldston. At the beginning of the second half, Marymount was determined to bring the game back to a tie, although they were not able to make any of their shots. With approximately five minutes in the half, the referee made a call against Fieldston that resulted in a penalty kick for Marymount.

Unfortunately, Marymount executed on the penalty kick, bringing the game back to a tie. The last few minutes of the game were well fought, but Fieldston was not able to score any goals. The game ended in a tie with a score of 1-1. Later in the week, on Saturday, GVS ventured to Horace Mann to play at their homecoming. Having already beaten Horace Mann earlier in the season, the team was ready to play and determined to get another win. Fieldston took many shots on goal, including Sophia Hoehler’s amazing shot which unfortunately hit the crossbar and did not go in, but Horace Mann’s keeper did an excellent job at saving them. The game originally ended in a 0-0 tie, but then went into overtime. With three minutes left in the game, freshman Ryan Mckenzie received the ball just outside the 18 yard box and shot the ball in the bottom left corner which resulted in a goal for Fieldston. The game ended with a score of 1-0 in Fieldston’s favor.

Additionally, our goalie, senior Marie Goldfarb, played a great game against Horace Mann with many outstanding saves. Girls Varsity Soccer is back on track and determined to beat some of our toughest competition in the next few games!
