NYSAIS finals, the last meet of the season, is finally upon us! After an interesting Ivy Champs last Friday, the team is ready to finish the XC season on a lethal note.

On the girls’ side, Friday’s meet was a peculiar one; Ana Sanchez De-Lozada (junior) was the only girl in attendance. Although tasked with being Fieldston’s sole representative in a race of 41, Ana performed. In addition to medaling in the race, Ana set a personal record (PR) by 51 seconds. Congrats Ana!

Although Friday’s performance didn’t live up to the boys’ high expectations (placing sixth in the league), there are still many incredible performances worth mentioning. Sammy Schindel (senior) finished eighth out of the 54 runners in the Varsity meet with a time of 13:58.1 (5:35 per mile). Additionally, Gabe Fernandez (senior) set a PR of 14:36.6 (22 seconds faster than his previous best). On the other end of the age spectrum, Freshman Miles Segal set a 46 second PR with his time of 15:03. As for the three Sophomore boys: Ajay Bose, Zach Gorton, and Gavin Kelly, whatever they’re doing, it’s working. Not only did each of them set a PR, but they all did so by 40+ seconds.

Amidst all these incredible performances, one clearly stands out: Aaron Isaac Geller’s. Although Aaron (junior) joined the team just this year in order to fulfill the recommendations of the Boys Varsity Basketball team’s coach, he has been a wonderful presence on the team. Aaron has done something that all competitive runners seek to do: set a personal record in every meet. His consistent improvement is a clear indicator of the hard work he has put in. Watch out for him as he takes the court this winter. Big things are in store for the team this Sunday and beyond.
